Do I need engineering or approval for a retaining wall?
In the ACT, walls over a certain height, or near boundaries and structures, generally need engineering and approval. We will tell you where your wall sits and sort the certification when it is needed.
What is the best material for a retaining wall?
It depends on the look you want, the height and the budget. Sandstone and natural stone look great, block gives a clean modern finish, and sleepers are a cost-effective option for lower walls. We will walk you through it.
Why do retaining walls fail?
Almost always drainage. Water builds up behind a wall with nowhere to go and the pressure pushes it out. We build in ag-line and drainage so that does not happen.
Can you build on a steep or tricky block?
Yes. A lot of Canberra blocks are sloped, and terracing them with retaining walls is exactly how we turn that slope into flat, usable yard.
